From monitoring to active decision-making
“In the past, climate data was mostly about reporting and summarizing the results once a project was complete. Now we can influence how construction is actually carried out based on climate considerations, all the way from the early stages to the climate declaration,” says Maria Uhrus, Sustainability Manager at Åke Sundvall.
Test solutions before projects are finalized
At first, Åke Sundvall relied on Plant’s consultants to help with his calculations. Since November, the team has been able to log in on their own, compare options, and immediately see what makes a difference. They have now used the tool in more than ten projects.
“We want to do it ourselves so we can have a say in the decisions. We want to keep track of our carbon footprint just as we keep track of our money,” says Maria.
As climate assessments become more closely integrated into projects, the way we work changes fundamentally.
– We now do our own calculations using an easy-to-use tool, both for our own development projects and for what the client requests. Plant also makes it possible to work with both whole-building calculations and environmental declarations, depending on the project’s requirements.
Visualization that drives better decisions
– With Plant, things become much more visual. You can immediately see what stands out and what has the greatest impact. It’s easy to explain to the organization when you can show bar charts and test different options in the projects. That way, you can immediately see where we need to make changes and which choices will have the greatest impact.
– When we can test different solutions and see the results right away, it also becomes clear if we won’t be able to meet the requirements. After all, we have both our own goals and requirements from external clients, so it becomes much easier to understand what we need to change.
Get started quickly and learn along the way
– It didn’t take long to get started. And you learn a lot more when you do it yourself—how different materials and choices actually affect the climate in these projects.
From measurement to actual impact
The biggest change is how they work now.
– The most important thing is that we’re not just measuring anymore; we can actually influence how we build.
