Over the past year, Skanska has tested Plant in five building regions and calculated nearly 200 projects. The results have been positive: with this tool, project teams, together with a climate expert, can complete a climate calculation in 90 minutes - a task that could previously take a full working day.
Anders Edvardsson, Climate and Sustainability Manager at Skanska Hus Syd, is leading the implementation.
- We will be able to make climate calculations in all our tenders and come up with concrete climate improvements for our customers," says Edvardsson.
For Plant, the agreement marks an important step in its development.
- Supporting Skanska in sustainable construction is a big deal for us. They have already come a long way. With our software as a complement, they will be even better equipped to make climate-smart decisions early on," says Pelle Tunell, CEO and co-founder of Plant.
Plant's software allows customers to experiment with different building elements and quickly determine the climate impact of different options.
- "From a simple sketch, we can produce a proposal for an entire building with climate improvement options in 90 minutes. This was previously impossible to do," says Edvardsson.
By working together, the project team gets a shared picture of climate impacts - and can make informed decisions right away.
- Now the climate expert and project manager can work together early in the same tool and get a common picture of climate impact," says Edvardsson.
Including climate calculations in the bidding process has become a strategic issue for Skanska.
- This creates opportunities and reduces risks. By calculating the climate already in the tender, we see early on whether the climate requirements are possible to achieve, or whether we need to propose other solutions. This allows us to manage risks before they become costly," says Edvardsson.
Plant plans to scale the software globally in the coming years.
- Skanska's work is inspiring both in Sweden and globally. They show that climate calculations can become a natural part of the process that everyone in the project can understand, influence and act on," says Tunell.
